What you need to back up photos & videos

  • Skillful internet connexion.
  • File sizes that can be backed up.  Your files won't be backed up if they are:
    • Photos larger than 200 MB or 150 MP
    • Videos larger than x GB.
    • Items smaller than 256 x 256.
  • File types that can be backed upward.
    • Photos: .jpg, .heic, .png, .webp, .gif, and some RAW files.
    • Alive photos can exist backed upward if you utilise the Google Photos app on your iPhone or iPad.
    • Videos: .mpg, .modern, .mmv, .tod, .wmv, .asf, .avi, .divx, .mov, .m4v, .3gp, .3g2, .mp4, .m2t, .m2ts, .mts, and .mkv files.

If you attempt to back upwardly a file type non listed here, it may not piece of work with Google Photos.

Of import: Your Google Account storage is shared across multiple products similar Google Photos, Google Drive, and Gmail. If you accept used all of your storage, you won't be able to back up new files.

There are 2 means to back up your telephone, camera, or storage bill of fare from your computer:

  1. Install Fill-in and Sync.
  2. Upload photos from your browser.

Gear up Google Bulldoze for desktop

  1. On your computer, download and install Google Bulldoze for Desktop.
  2. Sign in to your Google Account.
  3. Select the folders or pictures you want to back up and thenSupport to Google Photos.
  4. Select Done and thenSave.

Important:

  • If you remove a photo or video from your calculator that you previously backed up to Google Photos, it stays in Google Photos.
  • If you remove a photo or video from Google Photos, it isn't removed from Google Drive or your figurer.
  • Uploads can be slower and utilise more storage if you support to both Google Photos and Google Drive. Unless you demand a 2d re-create in Bulldoze, we recommend you back up photos and videos to Google Photos.

If you already accept Backup and Sync for Drive

Backup and Sync is now Google Drive for desktop.

If you lot already accept Fill-in and Sync installed, you'll be migrated to Google Drive for desktop.

To upgrade sooner, uninstall Backup and Sync and so follow the steps above to fix up Google Drive for desktop.

Select a different upload size

You can alter the upload size for photos and videos backed up to Google Photos from your computer.

Of import: You tin can't change the upload size for files synced with Google Bulldoze.

Back up your Apple Photo Library (Mac only)

If your computer runs macOS, you can back up your Organization Photo Library to Google Photos.

Tips:

  • If y'all have more than one Apple tree Photos Library, only the Organisation Photograph Library will be backed upward. You tin can apply Apple Photos to change the System Photograph Library.
  • If your Apple tree Photo Library is synced with iCloud, all photos and videos in your library and cloud will exist backed up to Google Photos on macOS ten.15 and above.

Upload items to Google Photos from your browser

  1. On your reckoner, open photos.google.com.
  2. At the top right, click Upload and thenComputer.
  3. Find and select your photos.
  4. Click Open.

You can also drag photos from your figurer to the album to upload them to Google Photos. If you lot drag a photograph to a specific album, the photo will be uploaded to that album.

In Google Photos, you tin can view how you uploaded your photos and videos.
